Auto Accident Checklist:

  • Stay as calm as possible.
  • Take control of the situation and look around you and determine if the accident scene is a safe distance from any passing traffic.
  • If needed, use flares that you should have in your trunk and put one or two up behind the accident to avoid other vehicles hitting you.
  • Check yourself and others for possible injuries-If there are any injuries involved by anyone involved, call 911. If there are no injuries, call the local police department. Even if damage is minor, insist that police get called in order to get a police report. Tell the other party that the police report is the most important piece of documentation for your insurance claim and that your insurance requires it in order to process any claims from any insurance company. In case of minor accidents and the police officer won't file a traffic accident report, insist on an incident report. You need some kind do documentation because you'd be surprised at how often the other driver's story will change.
  • Get all the involved drivers' names, license plate numbers, contact numbers and their related auto insurance company name and number.
  • Look for any possible witnesses and ask for their contact information.
  • Use your cell phone camera to take some shots of the scene and vehicles including injuries.
  • Do not admit any fault or liability to anyone. Speak only with the police, your attorney, and your insurance agent.

After The Accident Auto Claims Checklist:

  • Call your insurance company no matter who is at fault . It may be a good a idea for the police officer at the scene to also talk to your insurance company before you leave the scene of the accident. It may help expedite your claim process.
  • If you are not at, call the other party’s insurance company immediately to file a claim and if needed, a rental vehicle. They will which rental car companies they are affiliated with, then go get your rental car!
  • Write down all the detailed information about the accident before you call either insurance company as both will be asking a lot of questions regarding the accident. Questions like street names, time of accident, road & weather conditions, and so on.

After a claim is made, an insurance adjuster (your company or their company depending on fault) come see the car to asses the damages and creates an estimate which then goes to American Canyon Collision Repair Center where your car or truck will be fixed to it’its pre-accident condition.

Difference Between Collision and Comprehensive Insurance Coverage:

Comprehensive auto insurance covers everything except collision. It covers theft of vehicle, vandalism, fire, water damage, and all other similar circumstances that would cause damage to your vehicle excluding acts of God.

Collision auto insurance protects drivers in the case of accidents with other vehicles, objects, people, and road surfaces. It covers you whether you are at fault or not. You are protected against any damages done to your vehicle. Usually there are deductibles you must pay which vary depending on your insurance premiums.

When getting a loan to buy your vehicle, collision and comprehensive auto insurance are usually mandatory in order to protect the interests of the loaner. If your vehicle is older and not worth much, it may not be a good idea to buy collision insurance since the repairs from an accident may cost more then what the vehicle is valued. But it could still protect you from fender benders. If you own you vehicle and it has decent value, you will want to definitely consider carrying both comprehensive and collision insurance.
The experienced estimators will access the total damage to your car, truck, SUV, or van then take care of all the insurance claim work for you. We'll have your vehicle back to pre-accident condition quickly and without hassle.
